Lunch
Lunch is an important meal for children and should provide at least one third of a child’s daily nutrients to help them grow, learn and play.
- A serving from each essential food group:
- Fruit and vegetables
- Starchy foods
- Dairy
- Meat, fish, chicken or alternatives
Packed Lunches
Simply ensure that your child’s lunchbox includes:
- A starchy food – a roll, bread, crackers, pitta bread, pasta or rice.
- A protein food – meat, fish, chicken, eggs, beans, pulses, tofu, humous.
- A serving of vegetables – a few cherry tomatoes, strips of peppers (in a pasta salad), carrots or cucumber sticks.
- A piece of fruit – a small serving of dried fruit or fresh fruit or a mini can of fruit chunks.
- A serving of low fat dairy – fromage frais, yogurt, portion of cheese.
- A drink – water is ideal, but if you child wants a little more taste, try them with milk or yogurt drink or fruit smoothies.
