Calcium & Vitamin D in a Childs diet
Tip for Parents to get Calcium and Vitamin D into their children’s Diet
- Children need 3 portions from the milk and dairy group to get the recommended amount of Calcium and Vitamin D their growing bones need.
- Children learn their food choices when they are young from their parents, so point out foods you are eating that contain Calcium and Vitamin D.
Try to include foods which contain Calcium and Vitamin D at every meal.
Vitamin D is found naturally in a few foods such as oily fish and some food such as Petits Filous and milk and cereal are fortified with Vitamin D.
Breakfast:
- Pour milk over breakfast cereal.
- Drink a glass of milk
- Chop some fruits into Petits Filous or yogurt.
- Drink a glass of orange juice with added Calcium.
Lunch:
- Add cheese to a sandwich.
- Have a glass milk instead of fizzy juice.
- Have a pasta dish and top with grated cheese.
Snack:
- Have a pot of Petits Filous.
- Make a smoothie with fruit, ice, and milk.
- Try flavored milk instead of fizzy juice.
- Try some rice pudding made with milk.
- Dip fruits and vegetables into Petits Filous or yogurt.
- Have some cheese.
Dinner:
- Make a salad with dark green, leafy vegetables.
- Serve broccoli as a side dish.
- Make a tuna and pasta bake topped with grated cheese.
